Between the months January to May of this year, arrivals hit a record of 2 million. The surge of tourists came prominently from Korea, China, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

In a news release by the DOT, Korea and the United States account for 39.55 percent of total inbound traffic. Koreans are in the top rank of visitors in the Philippines as 489,389 Koreans arrived and toured  the country in the first five months of the year. Americans came a far second with only 306,056 arriving in the country posting a 2.58 percent increase from last year.

The DOT mentioned that now that the European Union has lifted it’s air safety ban on the Philippines, the country is aiming for 575,000 arrivals from the Eurozone this year.

Tourism Secretary Ramon R. Jimenez. Jr said that the lifting of European Union ban on PAL “augurs well for the industry and in meeting our year end goal of 5.5 million arrivals and our 2016 objective of 10 million.”
